Vaccinations

Pet vaccine, Rosslyn Veterinary Centre

Why do I need to vaccinate my pet?

There are many different diseases that our pets can catch either from contact with other pets or through the environment and it is easier to vaccinate in order to prevent your pet catching any of these, than is to try to treat afterwards as often these diseases can be fatal. Regular yearly boosters are required to boost your pet’s immunity and keep them safe. All your pets’ vaccines are free on the Healthy Pet Club.

What does the vaccination protect my pet against?

Dogs require vaccination against a number of diseases including:

  • Canine distemper virus.
  • Leptospirosis.
  • Canine parvovirus.
  • Infectious canine hepatitis.
  • Rabies (if your dog is travelling abroad).
  • Kennel Cough (especially if your dog is going into kennels or mixes regularly with other dogs)

Cats are routinely vaccinated against:

  • Feline herpes virus.
  • Feline infectious enteritis.
  • Feline leukaemia virus.
  • Feline calicivirus.

Rabbits also require vaccination routinely to afford protection against:

  • Myxomatosis.
  • Viral haemorrhagic disease.

How often should I vaccinate my pet?

Puppies and kittens require a course of vaccinations initially, and then a yearly booster, rabbits also need yearly vaccinations depending on what they are receiving cover for.
